On June 19, 2023, a submersible disappeared en route to the wreck of the Titanic.

MISCELLANEOUS – Concern reigns. A tourist submersible specializing in exploring the Titanic wreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean has gone missing, the BBC announced on Monday June 19. The information was confirmed by the American media CBS.

Lieutenant Jordan Hart, a member of the Boston Coast Guard (Boston Costguard), told CBS that “a search and rescue operation is underway.” For its part, SkyNews explains that in normal times the submarine broadcasts news every 50 minutes. However, no signal had been sent out for at least seven hours.

Very little information is currently available, particularly on the number of people on board the submersible that went missing off the coast of Canada. Nevertheless, the company OceanGate Expeditions has confirmed ownership of the boat. “We are reviewing and mobilizing all our options to find our team safe and sound,” the private company said in a statement obtained by the BBC.

It is common for small submarines to bring tourists or experts closer to the Titanic, whose wreck was found at a depth of 3,800 meters in 1985. In the case of OceanGate Expeditions, an eight-day trip in a small submersible that seats up to five people costs $250,000 per person.
