Both will be summoned to a first hearing in London on Tuesday.

The player’s two cats were placed in the care of the animal welfare association RSPCA, which had initiated proceedings to prosecute Kurt and Yoan Zouma under animal welfare laws.

The London club did not suspend its player and even forced him to play a game on the night the affair was revealed, which provoked a large wave of protests.

The player was eventually fined €300,000, the highest possible fine, by his club and sports equipment supplier Adidas had broken a contract with the player.

West Ham had assured that the cats “did not suffer any physical injuries” according to the information available to the club.

The club then assured that the fine imposed on the player had been donated to animal welfare organizations.
