For young Sonia Cordeau, watching TV as a family meant lots of laughter but also serious discussions about important topics. And because she is younger than her brothers, she remembers, the hours in front of the small screen could be longer…
Sonia, which children's programs impressed you?
I loved Télé-Pirate because of the humorous skits, the crazy and funny characters. When I was younger I also listened to Enfanforme. I loved moving with them [Joël Legendre et Élyse Marquis, NDLR]. I think I had a huge crush on Élyse Marquis.

What are your favorite TV memories from your childhood?
I remember my parents, my brothers and I watching TV together. We laughed together and watched La petite vie, Chop Suey or Les Bleu Poudre. I also remember important discussions after watching Love with a Capital A with my parents. I was very interested in adult shows, I liked big themes.

Would you say you watched a lot of TV as a child?
Yes very much. I think my parents saw my great interest in being told stories and being moved and amused by actors. Since I'm the baby of the family, I think I got to stay up late to watch shows more often than my older brothers!
Is there a character who influenced you?
When I saw the film “The Four Daughters of Doctor March” on television, I identified very much with the character Joséphine [jouée par Winona Ryder dans la production de 1994, NDLR]. I also wanted to be free and write. And those are still my main goals in life.
After all these years, is there still a song from a show that sticks in your mind?
The theme of Caleb's Daughters [du compositeur Richard Grégoire, NDLR] still comes to mind often. I often hum all of the music from the series. The topic also of But where is Carmen Sandiego hiding? can sometimes come to mind!
Is there a character you wish you could have played for children?
What I would really like to do is do voices for cartoons.
What do you think of today's children's television?
Of course I believe that it is necessary and that we should not neglect the budgets to make it happen here. This is important to retain audiences on Quebec television. And also because we have many young creators who should have the opportunity to offer their worlds to children.
