Orlando, Florida – Tiger Woods raised the phrase “moving the needle” to a different level on Wednesday when the PGA Tour unveiled the winners of the Player Impact Program (PIP), which the tour first introduced in 2021.
Although he has not played in an official Masters 2020 tournament, Woods has been declared the winner of the PIP and will receive $ 8 million for it. Phil Mickelson, who recently took to Twitter to declare himself the winner of the PIPactually finished second and collected $ 6 million.
In December, Mickelson announced that he had won a PIP, tweeting, “I’d like to thank all the crazy (and real supporters) for helping me win a PIP!”
After the results were revealed on Wednesday, Woods took to Twitter, re-tweeting Mickelson with the words: “Oops.”
The admission program, which awarded $ 40 million to the top 10 graduates, was measured from January 1 to December 31, 2021, and the end result was calculated based on year-end data.

The winners used five criteria to determine the winner – Nielsen ratings, Google searches, MVP index, Meltwater Mentions and Q-Rating, based on the attractiveness and popularity of the player on social media.
The top 10 players received bonuses from the $ 40 million fund, which grows to $ 50 million in 2022. Woods and Mickelson were followed by Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spy, Bryson DeChambo and Justin Thomas, each receiving $ 3.5 million and then and Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, world number one John Ram and Buba Watson, each of whom won $ 3 million.
“Look at the 10 boys who are there, and these are the 10 boys who have been at the top of the game or have been at the top of the game for a long time,” McIlroy said Wednesday. “It’s certainly not something I check every week to see where I am, but I think it went the way most of us expected.
Patrick Cantlay, who is No. 3 in the world and not in the field of Arnold Palmer’s invitation this week, recently condemned the PIP program, saying it should give more weight to players’ results.
“I think I’m from the old school in terms of wanting the money to be allocated to the game, and I don’t think the PIP is doing that,” Cantlay told Genesis Invitational two weeks ago. “This may be the first deviation the tour has from rewarding a good game to rewarding a social media presence or popularity, so I don’t like this departure.”
Victor Howland, who does not have a Twitter account, said on Wednesday: “Obviously it would be nice to do a PIP, but at the same time I will not try to try to do that. I spend too much time on my phone, just answering messages. I see him more as a distraction than what he does to help me. My main focus is just to play better golf and that takes care of most things. ”
The Major League Baseball lockout is entering its fourth month, and the first two series of the regular season of the 2022 schedule have already been lost. Most fans are tired of rolling back and forth, pointing fingers and calling a name, instead they just want to know when they can expect MLB to be part of their daily routine again. The unpleasant reality is that there is no definite answer to this question, as we cannot know for sure when an agreement will be reached – or even when negotiations will resume.
As Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic points out, local television contracts do not require concessions from teams until approximately 25 games have been lost. Jeff Passan of ESPN adds some details, writing that avoiding discounts requires broadcasting between 138 and 150 games (with slight variations between teams). This affects the owners’ ability to endure, as well as the general fact that their wealth is significantly ahead of that of the players. In states with cold weather, April is a relatively sparsely attended month – at least after the early pressures of the opening series.
On the part of the players in the equation, a member of the MLBPA Executive Subcommittee Andrew Miller told reporters last night that union solidarity is stronger than it has ever seen (a link through Derrick Gould of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch).
“We’re ready,” Miller said. “It simply came to our notice then. This is a pity. This is not new to us. This is not shocking. Our communication, our desire to see the other’s point of view and find solutions and fight for what is right, is not what I have seen before. I can tell you that. “
Both Miller and a fellow member of the subcommittee Max Scherzer radiating strength and desire to improve conditions for future generations. Scherzer frankly said he was more than willing to “sacrifice part of [his] career “, noting that he would not have been able to sign the contract he signed without previous generations of players sacrificing parts of his career for him. At the very least, the MLBPA is setting a strong front.
It’s easier for players like Scherzer, who have made hundreds of millions in career profits, to lose their jobs than for players with little or no MLB experience. However, as noted here in the MLBTR this week, the union has been preparing for this worst-case scenario for some time, separating its licensing revenue from a separate company that allows them to take stakes in third countries.
The MLBPA has offered $ 5,000 scholarships to its members for both February and March, and according to Rosenthal and colleague Evan Drelic, it will begin offering $ 15,000 monthly scholarships on April 1. Most veterans will not apply for these checks, but for those who play closer to the minimum league – or in particular those who are expected to collect salaries from the lower leagues – this is a reasonably significant amount. The union has the means to make ends meet throughout the season by paying these scholarships, although the obvious hope is that the decision will come much sooner.
Now it all depends on how quickly the two parties return to the table and whether one or both will blink at historical levels of tension and public pressure. Clark’s assumption that property is more about “destroying the union” than bringing players back to the field speaks volumes about the gap that remains, and now, on top of that, they will be arguing about potentially distributed wages and service time. .
When Rafael Fiziev was forced to leave UFC 272 after being infected with COVID-19, it turned out for a moment that the long-awaited showdown between Islam Mahachev and Rafael dos Agnos could indeed happen.
As it turned out, less than 24 hours later Renato Moikano came in as Fiziev’s deputy.
UFC President Dana White revealed on Wednesday that she believes a deal has been made for Mahachev to take the fight – until he receives word that the Dagestani in the lightweight category has turned down the opportunity.
“Pretty close – I thought we did,” White told Makhachev’s Barstool Sports against Dos Agnos. “When I went to bed one night, I thought it was over. I woke up the next morning and realized that they had refused him. Islam [turned it down]. No idea [why]”
According to White, as soon as Fiziev was forced to pull out the card, UFC matchmakers began looking for potential replacements as many volunteers tried to land the battle.
Mahachev was among the first people to drop his name as a possible opponent after being tied with dos Agnos in two separate cases in 2020 and 2021. He was just days away from the UFC Vegas 49 victory over Bobby Green, which was a duel , who came together with a quick save after Beneil Dariush had to leave the fray.
Mahachev even went back and forth with dos Agnos on social media for the proposed match. However, White said something must have changed because he did not accept the battle in the end.
“The best battle we could do would be him and Islam. “The RDA and Islam,” White said. “Islam rejects battle. What is the best battle you can do? [Renato] Moikano. ”
Moicano accepted the battle, knowing he would have to fly nearly 20 hours from his home in Brazil back to the United States, while reducing his weight to 160 pounds in five rounds of fighting in the best category. He actually arrived in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon and will now face Dos Agnos in the UFC 272 co-main event.
As for Makhachev, although he competed less than a week ago, White still expected him to take the battle with dos Anjos, although apparently this did not happen.
While all signs previously pointed to Makhachev getting a title shot against the winner of the upcoming lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and Justin Gage in UFC 274, it looks like there will be more work now before he becomes the next No. 1 contender for the division. .
“He’s obviously doing very well,” White told Makhachev. “I love the battle with Dariusz.
“Since he rejected this battle, we will remake the battle with Dariusz. We will continue this battle. I’m dying to see this battle. It goes through Dariusz, very interesting. ”
On Wednesday afternoon, Mahachev appeared to respond to White’s comments about his place in the division.
I don’t care who you put in front of me, I’ll defeat this whole division
Russell Westbrook shot 5 of 17 from the field on Tuesday in a disappointing 109-104 loss at home to the Dallas Mavericks. This performance was hardly extraordinary. In 12 times Westbrook has finished matches with more misses than goals from the field. He was eliminated late in several games due to his poor game, and his plus-minus against the Mavericks (-8) was greater than the result that the Lakers lost the game with (5). At 27-34, all sorts of faint hopes that the Lakers were still holding on to the dispute quickly faded. In the very near future, their focus will have to shift to next season.
And if both sides have their way, they will prepare for next season separately. Jake Fisher of the Bleacher Report says there is a “mutual interest in finding a new home in Westbrook this summer,” which will potentially end one of the most disastrous experiments in Lakers history.

The Houston Rockets were interested in a potential Westbrook exchange with John Wall in the trading deadline, provided the Lakers provided adequate compensation for the draft, but Fischer said the talks “did not generate much strength”. At the time, rumors suggested that the Rockets wanted a first-round choice in 2027 from the Lakers, or at least the right to exchange elections this season. The Lakers could only legally trade in one first round at the deadline: 2027 or 2028.
When the mid-season comes, the seven-year rule will allow the Lakers access to their first-round selection in 2029 for commercial purposes, and Westbrook itself will have an expiring contract. This will make it much more marketable. There will be teams with many long-term contracts that clog their books, which are interested in trading with Westbrook primarily to clear space for 2023. If the Lakers implement both options, they could potentially add more players of initial caliber.
An alternative that Fischer explored would be to use the stretching provision to abandon Westbrook, but there would be little practical benefit from doing so. This approach will remove Westbrook from the team and allow them to distribute his $ 47 million salary over the next three seasons, but even if they do, they will not be able to generate real room for restraint in 2022 because LeBron James and Anthony Davis are making maximum wages. What stretching Westbrook would do is prevent the Lakers from maximizing their upcoming flexibility in 2023 or use Westbrook’s salary as an off-season trading tool.
If Westbrook will leave this team in the off-season, it will be through an exchange. It seems that both sides want one. Now all you have to do is find a partner.
STANDFORD (CBS SF) – A Stanford University student found dead on campus has been identified as Katie Meyer, the star goalkeeper of the 2019 Cardinal Women’s National Football Team.
Although they did not reveal any details about Mayer’s death, university officials said the campus was in a state of mourning and that grief counselors were available.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that Katie Meyer, a senior major in International Relations and History, a permanent assistant and team captain and goalkeeper for the Stanford women’s soccer team, has died,” university officials said in a news release. “Please join us in expressing our deepest condolences to her parents and sisters. We would also like to express our heartfelt condolences to Katie’s friends, classmates, classmates, teammates, teachers and coaches. “
“Katie was extremely committed to everything and everyone in her world,” the statement continued. “Her friends describe her as a team player who is bigger than life in all her pursuits.
The 22-year-old grew up in Burbank and excelled in football at an early age. She was a member of the national under-16 girls’ team, which played in Italy and the Netherlands.
At Stanford, as a freshman with a red shirt, she made 16 starts in 2019 with 0.26 goals against the average and 0.818 percent of the save. But she will always be remembered for her performance in the shootout of the 2019 NCAA Championship.
“Fiercely competitive, Katie made two critical saves on penalties against North Carolina to help Stanford win its third NCAA Women’s Football Championship in 2019,” university officials said. “Katie was a bright light for so many on the field and in our community.”

The news of Mayer’s death caused an outpouring of emotions on social media.
“Aaaaa. I send it to Katie’s family and friends. Heartbreaking. Embrace someone close to you. Tell them how much you love them, “said former Stanford star and great national team player Julie Foody.
“Rest in peace ❤️ We miss you, fly high angel .. please all hug your loved ones today” – said former teammate and professional footballer Tegan McGrady.
“My heart is broken” I had the honor of playing with Katie for one season and she inspired not only me but everyone else around her. “Your amazing heart and smile will be missing.” Sending love to my friends and family. ” – published former teammate Lauren Sesselman.
In a statement Tuesday to Stanford students, faculty and staff, Vice Vice President of Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole said a student had died at a campus residence. It appears to have occurred at Crothers Hall, where police and an ambulance were spotted around 11 a.m.

The Stanford Daily reported that a police officer had identified the death as emergency medical care. Brubaker-Cole quoted police as saying there was no constant threat to the safety of those on campus. The school did not identify the student at the time, nor the cause of death, in order to respect the family’s privacy.
Former UFC star Kane Velazquez has been charged with attempted murder and faces other charges related to the shooting in California this week.
Velazquez, 39, was formally charged Wednesday, and a report by the San Jose Police Department shed light on the incident and gave the alleged motive behind the shooting. Police said the victim of the shooting was not the person alleged that Velazquez was targeted.

According to police, San Jose and Morgan Hill officers received a call about a man who shot at a vehicle with three passengers inside. The gunman has been identified as Velázquez and is said to have shot dead a man who was later transported to a local hospital with injuries, according to police. The report says Velázquez tracked down a woman and another man, who was later identified as Harry Goularte Jr.
Police say Velázquez fired a gun at Goulart, who was recently accused of harassing a close relative of the retired master of mixed martial arts. Gularte was charged with a felony and lewd act against a child on February 25th and was released under supervision, police said.
Gularte lived in day care run by his mother. According to police, Goularte’s mother was in the car that Velázquez shot at. Authorities said day care had been temporarily closed.

After the arrest of Velazquez, Morgan Hill police found a .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol in the suspect’s car with nine bullets loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, a police report said. There was another cartridge in the console that had three bullets, and two .40-cliber cartridges were found in the passenger seat. Police say the gun was legally registered to Velazquez.

Police said four shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting, and a cartridge case was placed in the vehicle in which the victims were sitting.
The accusation of attempted murder of Velazquez stems from his shooting at Goulart, according to The Mercury News. He also faces charges of shooting at an occupied vehicle, multiple assaults and a weapon charge.
“The sad tragedy is that Mr. Velazquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck,” Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen told KTVU. “This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family.

Others defended Velazquez on social media.
Velazquez was a UFC champion. He won the UFC heavyweight title over Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 in October 2010. After losing it in his next fight against Junior dos Santos, he regained his title over dos Santos at UFC 155. He defended the title twice and after it lost her to Fabricio Verdum.
Velázquez last fought in the UFC against current champion Francis Nganu in February 2019. Nganu won the battle in 26 seconds.

On Tuesday, Washington coach Ron Rivera made it clear that the team covers all bases in search of a new coach. On Wednesday, Washington CEO Martin Mayhew made it clear that the team is literally doing just that.
“We feel we have effectively campaigned for the league,” Mayhew told reporters through ESPN.com’s John Kane. “We talked to every club that has a quarterback that may be available.
Mayhew said the commanders did the same a year ago.
“If you don’t have a quarterback franchise, you need to have urgency [finding one] every year, “Mayhew said. “It simply came to our notice then. I’m not sure it was a fair fight for Matthew [Stafford] I will leave it there last year. We did our best to find the right person. “
This was not a fair battle for Stafford for several reasons. First, then the new lions general Brad Holmes got the job after working for Rams. It was an open and easy line of communication. Second, Rams had to find a broader deal in which Jared Goff’s contract could be included in order to keep his face on the terrible contract they had given him.
Mayhew was not the first to express concern that competition for Stafford was not as open as it could have been, or perhaps as it should have been. The Lions may have gotten more by holding an open auction for Stafford. On the other hand, there were teams that Stafford did not want to play for. He obviously wanted to play for Rams and obviously succeeded.
This year, Washington is actively searching. And that may not necessarily be the case through trade.
“It’s a quality quarterback this year,” Mayhew said. “Right now, I think there may be some division here at the plant. We can see some of this happening. But we know what our options are for next year. We are looking to look at it now, if possible. And that’s where our focus is. “
Taylor Heinicke may not be excited about this, but he had a chance to become the man Washington needed. He is not. So now they will look elsewhere. And they will keep looking until they find one.
Abramovich will sell Chelsea after 19 years of ownership
The Russian says the sale is in the club’s interest
Calls on the United Kingdom to sanction Abramovich have become more frequent
Net proceeds from the sale will go to the victims of the war in Ukraine
Abramovich says he will not ask for loans to repay
LONDON, March 2 – Russian businessman Roman Abramovich said on Wednesday he would sell Chelsea football club 19 years after buying it and put the team on the road to sporting fame, and promised to donate money from the sale to help victims of the war in Ukraine.
Amid growing calls for Abramovich to be affected by sanctions following Russia’s invasion of his neighbor, the metal tycoon said in a statement that the sale was in the best interests of current European and world football champions.
“In the current situation, I decided to sell the club because I think it is in the best interests of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the sponsors and partners of the club,” he said.

Abramovich has said he will not ask for loans he has given to the Premier League club – a total of £ 1.5 billion ($ 2.0 billion) – to be repaid and the sale will not be quick.
He told his aides to set up a charity that would receive all the net proceeds from the sale.
“The foundation will benefit all victims of the war in Ukraine,” Abramovich said in a statement.
“This includes providing critical resources for the urgent and urgent needs of victims, as well as supporting long-term recovery work.”
Swiss business mogul Hansjörg Vis told a newspaper that he was considering buying Chelsea from Abramovich, who said over the weekend that he was stepping down from the club, but did not mention plans to change ownership.
“Abramovich is currently trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly now. I, along with three others, received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich,” Blick was quoted as saying. Wyss in an interview published Wednesday. Read more
TORTURE OF TROPHIES
Abramovich bought the club from West London in 2003 for 140 million pounds and his investment contributed greatly to the most successful era in the history of the team, as they won five Premier League titles, five English Cups and twice the Champions League. .
His purchase of the club helped transform the English football landscape, with Chelsea breaking the grip of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
They beat Brazilian side Palmeiras last month to win the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time since beating Manchester City to become European champions last season.
The “seismic moment” was how BBC presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker described the announcement before the FA Cup fifth round match in Luton Town.

Chelsea fans on Kenilworth Road chanted the name of the Russian before the start.
The 55-year-old man, who has Israeli and Portuguese citizenship, has become one of Russia’s most influential businessmen, earning great fortunes since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Forbes estimates his net worth at $ 13.3 billion.
Following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Britain has imposed sanctions on 12 members of Russia’s and Belarusian elites, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and at least 12 banks and companies.
Britain’s Labor opposition leader Keir Starmer asked Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday why there were no sanctions against the Chelsea owner. Speaking in parliament, Johnson said he could not go into detail.
But Foreign Minister Liz Truss warned that she had compiled a “list of killed” Russian oligarchs and said the government would impose new sanctions on them every few weeks.
The Financial Times says the government is also plotting to seize property owned by Russian oligarchs. Read more
However, David Davis, a veteran MP from Johnson’s ruling Conservative Party, said the sale should be blocked until Abramovich proves the source of his wealth.
“We must do everything we can to prevent him from selling off his assets in the United Kingdom,” Davis said on Twitter.
Abramovich said the decision to sell was incredibly difficult.
“I hope to be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person,” he said.
Abramovich turned his back on life in London in 2018, when the British government delayed the renewal of his visa after the assassination attempt on a former Russian double agent in England, whom Moscow blamed.
“It has been a lifelong privilege for me to be part of Chelsea FC and I am proud of all our joint achievements,” he said.
“Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart.
