Video games: Nintendo reaches agreement with emulator publisher

Less than a week after initiating a lawsuit against an American publisher of an emulator, a program that lets you play console games freely on a phone or computer, Nintendo announced Tuesday that it had reached a settlement and dropped the lawsuits.

After negotiations with Tropic Haze, a company based in Rhode Island (Northeast) that develops and distributes Yuzu, a particularly popular emulator, Nintendo announced that it had reached an agreement for $2.4 million according to a document seen by AFP.

According to the agreement, Tropic Haze “agrees to judgment in favor of Nintendo and agrees to pay the amount of $2.4 million in favor of Nintendo” to cover damages and legal costs.

This agreement in no way prejudges the decision of the Rhode Island state courts to which Nintendo appealed, but Tropic Haze has already committed not to appeal this decision.

Yuzu was originally designed to play games linked to previous Nintendo consoles. According to the Japanese company, Yuzu now offers access to games on its current console, the Switch.

An emulator is a small computer program that can be downloaded to a computer or smartphone and allows you to play games originally intended for consoles such as Switch, PlayStation or Xbox.

Emulators were originally designed to play games that were no longer released on the latest consoles, before “vintage” gaming became its own market for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft as well.

However, you can now mostly play the latest games that have been released on current console models.

According to the Japanese giant, Tropic Haze bypasses the complex encryption and protection measures that Nintendo implements in each of its games to then make them available to Yuzu users.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 ticks almost all the boxes: its impressive body makes no compromises, neither in terms of performance nor in battery life, and the screen is very well made, with true-to-original colors and an effective anti-reflective treatment. Our only regret at this point is that the resolution of the panel is lower than that of the best laptops.

The Asus Zenbook 15 Oled offers top-notch performance for an ultrabook, especially thanks to AMD's brave Ryzen 7, which allows it to do some video gaming escapades, and the Oled panel. The lack of anti-reflective treatment on the panel is also a point to consider if you plan to use it outdoors. However, a few small details cloud this seemingly idyllic picture, especially the battery life, which is a bit short for an Ultrabook. Right-handed users, on the other hand, will be annoyed by the grouping of ports on the right side of the ZenBook. Otherwise, it's a large-format Ultrabook worth considering, especially if you can find it at a cheaper price than its direct competitors.

Tie required, gentlemen! | The Quebec Journal

On Sunday I had fun confessing on Facebook, but it wasn't really a confession that I like restaurants where a jacket and tie are required.

I agree, there aren't many of them – it's almost an eccentricity today. I don't even know if we still find them in Montreal – they still exist in certain large western metropolises.

But I like the poles of resistance that withstand the flattening that all too often accompanies modernity, that hold on to a certain verticality, that preserve traditions.

I admit, but again it is not really an admission that I am sorry for the aesthetic decline of today's society, a society that seems to have forgotten that aesthetics is also an ethics, that beauty is not strictly relative and that For men and women it is important to have clothes (let's admit that men often lack it!).

Evolution in a society that is no longer able to distinguish beauty from ugliness and even confuse them comes at a cost, something that the fashion industry is often guilty of, as if indulging in a nihilistic fantasy. with creators who believe they are all-powerful and want to deface the world while believing they are liberating it. The ideology of authenticity attacks forms and in fact drives the deconstruction of both – to the point of celebrating the flaccid and soft, the formless and unstructured.

This ideology has an impact on life in society, even if that is not enough to explain it: relaxation becomes the law, behavior the exception.

All this to say that after I wrote this message on Facebook, I noticed a strong reaction. Certainly not a storm, we should not exaggerate anything, but what is clear is that there is something passionate when we touch the world of clothing, as if everyone feels negatively judged when we advocate for elegance or at least for a slightly more elegant society.

Some saw this somewhat amused appeal as a form of advocacy of elitism – and seem to forget that barely two or three generations ago citizens and workers were concerned with dressing well, each according to his abilities. Means, that goes without saying.

To be clear: I am not advocating for the compulsory tie everywhere, even if I think that it becomes once again the symbol of a form of aesthetic affirmation: it becomes the symbol of a small individual revolt against the tyranny of the formless.

But it is good that it is still required in some places, and it would be even better if they inspired other places even more so that the taste for beauty is brought back to life in everyday life. Anyone who leaves the house should always dress up a little.

Of course, elegance cannot be limited to a single model – fortunately, and I don't have the ambition to bind half of humanity to myself! But it contains some codes that we can learn – at any age. Anyone who masters these codes can then play with them.

And whatever anyone says, it's a fun game for adults that also allows you to correct some natural imperfections, unfortunately only incomplete!

And perhaps that is the point: we must finally understand that a society that uses the adolescent as a role model instead of using the adult as a role model for the adolescent is a society that will lose itself in childishness.

Masculinity needs to be restored in a society where we often try to deny it or reduce it to a form of primary and animal aggressiveness. It is inextricably linked to the concern for forms. It's not just about each individual's outfit – but we can't pretend that there is no connection between one and the other.

On your ties, gentlemen!

GTA Vice City runs like magic on a router, video proof

Researchers at Kitten Labs have shown that it is entirely possible to turn a simple TP-Link WiFi router into a gaming PC. In fact, after a few days of tinkering and installing a Linux version, these experts managed to run the cult game GTA Vice City perfectly.

GTA Vice City Router Photo credit: Kitten Labs

Taking old games and trying to make them run on anything and everything has become an essential practice in recent years. For example, we no longer count them unlikely havens of fatethe father of FPS, released in 1995.

In the past, we have mentioned on numerous occasions the exploits of several hackers to transfer the title of “Id Software” to inappropriate devices such as an exercise bike screen, a TI-83 calculator, Windows notepad, a keyboard key, etc. as of late a connected toothbrush!

But this time the focus is not on Doom, but on a certain GTA Vice City, a cult sequel to the Rockstar Games saga. In fact, researchers at Kitten Labs have shown that with a little skill and technology, this is entirely possible transform an old TP-Link WiFi router into a gaming PC able to rotate the title. Explanations.

GTA Vice City on a router, that's possible

These experts initially set their sights on it the TP-Link TL-WDR4900 WiFi router (published in 2013). Kitten Labs members appreciated it for its good performance and chose it primarily because of its NXP-Freescale QorlQ P1014 processor, which is actually a PowerPC e500v2 32-bit SoC.

Of course, the performance of the router is not everything. Since there was no slot compatible with GPUs for PC, it was necessary to use tricks Install an eGPU. After adding a miniPCIe connection, the teams started a version of Debian Linux with additional kernel modules enabled (required to support AMD graphics drivers).

_Real_ Gaming Router – GTA Vice City on a TP-Link router

After a first failed experience with a Radeon RX 570, Kitten Labs resorted to one old Radeon HD 7470 with a former pilot. First step validated, the system starts working. The only thing left was to get a version of GTA Vice City that runs on Linux/PowerPC. They then decided to do so a reverse-engineered version of the title called ReVC (whose files are publicly accessible).

After experiencing various issues when launching the game (graphics corruption, crashing when interacting with NPCs, etc.), after a few months they managed to get the title running perfectly. You can see the entire process in the video in the article.

How to install the update and force activation of new features

The Windows 11 Moment 5 update has been available for a few days and does not include all the latest features by default. However, you can force it to be activated without waiting for Microsoft to make it available.

The Windows 11 Moment 5 update has been officially available to eligible PC users for a few days. However, this new version is initially only available in the form of an optional update.

As with every update of its operating system, Microsoft proceeds in waves. When the update is finally stable, Microsoft will initially only offer it to users who expressly request it. In fact, to get it before everyone else, it is necessary to activate an option in the update settings of Windows 11 to indicate that you want to be served first. Microsoft will then begin distributing its update to a broader target before fully opening the floodgates to offer it to everyone via a monthly update scheduled to arrive here on April 9th.

For now, even if you manage to install the update on your computer, there is no sign that you will benefit from all the new features announced by Microsoft. And for good reason: If certain new features depend on the hardware configuration, Microsoft has made a habit of gradually distilling the new features in its update. If you are one of the first users to install this optional update (KB5034848), there is a good chance that you will not be able to access all features yet.

But don't panic, even if they are not visible on your computer, the new features are there but not activated. It's also easy to force it to be activated manually.

Half price wireless headphones and a free charger as a bonus

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, which we really liked, are currently included in a quite interesting package: firstly because they also include a 15W fast charger, but above all also because at Fnac they cost 69.99 euros instead of 149 .99 euros and darty.

Half price wireless headphones and a free charger as a

Although Samsung has launched high-end wireless headphones, namely the Galaxy Buds Pro and Pro 2, the brand has not abandoned the mid-range and tighter budgets. In its catalog we find in particular the Galaxy Buds 2, wireless headphones with a very good price-performance ratio that we rated 8/10 at the end of our test. They are even rated better than their Pro version, which is saying something. Their publication is not new, but it also allows them to display an increasingly lower price. And that is even more the case at the moment since we find them in a pack that can cost you less than 70 euros and which also includes a good 15W fast charger.

What this Samsung package contains

  • Comfortable and durable wireless headphones
  • With noise reduction
  • A fast wireless charger that delivers up to 15W of power

The Samsung package with Galaxy Buds 2 and fast wireless charger was originally offered for 149.99 euros and, thanks to a shopping cart discount, is currently available for 99.99 euros at Fnac and Darty. In addition, thanks to an ODR of 30 euros valid until April 30, 2024the price drops to just 69.99 euros.

If the offer mentioned in this article is no longer available at a later date, please look below for further promotions related to the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2. The table updates automatically.

Where to buy
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 at the best price?

Rich, detailed sound

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 adopt the signature shape of the brand's headphones with their round and compact aesthetic. Their in-ear format makes them particularly discreet, but above all very comfortable in the ear. We thank her lightness for that. However, anyone who is allergic to headphones that are placed in the ear canal (which can create a plug effect) will always be bothered by this format. On the audio side, the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 have two dynamic converters, just like the Galaxy Buds Pro. This system provides a lot of detail in the sound, which is really pleasant. The bass is very present and deep: it has to be said that the headphones really emphasize low frequencies. On the other hand, the mids and highs do not benefit from such good quality.

Active noise cancellation is also included and is very impressive, but the level is not adjustable. A transparent mode is also available. Finally, as far as autonomy is concerned, during our test the headphones were able to last between 4 and 5 hours on a single charge. By putting it back in its case, we were able to restore the battery to 100% in 38 minutes. The Galaxy Buds 2 are also compatible with wireless charging, including standard Qi chargers.

A practical fast charger for Samsung devices

The Samsung Pad fast charger included in this package can charge the Galaxy Buds 2. This device turns out to be very convenient in everyday life, especially thanks to its flat design, which allows for quick installation of devices on its surface. This wireless induction charger is Qi certified and can charge all compatible devices. But be careful: only Samsung-developed products can benefit from 15W power.

For example, if you want to place an Apple device on it, the fast charge will not exceed 7.5W. Otherwise, the Samsung Pad has a cooling system with a fan to prevent the devices from overheating. Finally, this wireless charger does not come with an adapter: you will therefore need a 25W power adapter and a USB-C to USB-C cable.

The media shares new images of the Galaxy A35 and recalls the four new design elements compared to the Galaxy A34:

The entire Galaxy A35 spec sheet has been shared. First of all, we would find a 6.6-inch Amoled screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The terminal would also benefit from an IP67 certification, a rear photo module with ultra wide angle 8 MP (f/2.2) and 5 MP macro (f/2.4), a 13 MP selfie camera (f/2.2) and a 5,000 mAh battery.

The further developments compared to the Galaxy A34 would be in terms of performance and photography. The buyer would be entitled to a new Samsung Exynos 1380 chip, replacing the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. With the disappearance of the 4/128 GB version, the RAM/storage configurations would also improve. The smartphone would therefore benefit from at least 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, at best an 8/256 GB combination.

The main photo sensor, in turn, would improve significantly, increasing to a resolution of 50 Mpx on the Galaxy A35, compared to 48 Mpx on the current model (still with an aperture of f/1.8). For videos, the smartphone was able to film up to 30 frames per second in 4K with the rear photo module, thanks to the front camera in FHD with 30 fps.

This new model would gain some weight at 209g (+10g) and would run on One UI 6.1 upon release, so potentially with Galaxy AI features.

As a reminder, last week WinFuture announced the marketing of the Galaxy A55 on March 11, 2024 in Germany, i.e. in Europe. The Galaxy A35 should be released at the same time given Samsung's previous launches for its mid-range smartphones.
