“Palworld,” released on consoles and PC on Friday, is a so-called third-person shooter game in which an avatar evolves in a world populated by sometimes hostile creatures, some of them characters from the Pokémon universe.

Two of them in particular recall the famous Pikachu, the emblematic star of Pokémon available in the form of trading cards, cartoons and video games.

“We will investigate and take appropriate action on any intellectual property violations related to Pokémon,” the group warned in a statement posted on its website.

According to License Global, the Pokémon brand generated $11.6 billion in licensing revenue in 2022, more than gaming giants Hasbro or Mattel.

PocketPair announced Wednesday evening that “Palworld” had already sold 8 million copies in just six days.

“We have received several inquiries regarding the game from another publisher that was released in January,” Pokémon said, without mentioning the name of the game in question.

“We have not granted permission to use Pokémon's intellectual property rights in this game,” said the company, which is jointly controlled by Nintendo and Japanese video game publishers Game Freak and Creatures.

PocketPair did not immediately respond to AFP's request.

“We were the target of defamatory comments against our creators and noticed tweets that appeared to be death threats,” Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

2024 is the year of video games in automobiles – Le Journal Saint-François

2024 is the year of video games in automobiles –

From the first weeks of January we often wonder what strong theme will dominate the year in the different sectors of the economy, and in the automotive industry it seems that we already have a candidate for this theme in 2024: video games.

After Mercedes-Benz, which for three weeks has talked a lot about the introduction of video games in all its forms on board its future vehicles, now it was the turn of Ford and Lincoln to promise a new range of video game entertainment on board their own new products.

Ford appears to be abandoning the Sync name in favor of a new system called Digital Experience that is intended to enliven the multimedia systems of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. First up is the 2024 Nautilus, a redesign of Lincoln's midsize SUV that's expected to be very high-tech.

The digital experience system on board the Nautilus comes in the form of a huge 48-inch display, which is gigantic, but smaller versions can also be found on board Ford Group's cheaper vehicles.

In all cases, it is the Google Automotive platform that forms the basis of the interface. This allows Ford and Lincoln to display navigation data directly from Google Maps, provided of course that the system is connected to a wireless network. By default, Ford allows its interface to be controlled by voice by communicating with Google Assistant, but users can also activate Alexa, Amazon's voice control, which is also part of the Digital Experience system.

In addition, unlike other manufacturers, Ford continues to offer wireless CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces just in case.

Finally, coming back to video games, Ford's system will be entitled to the Google Play Store, which allows you to download entertainment applications of all kinds, including video games, Ford was happy to point out. The first game offered is a racing game called Asphalt Nitro, which can be played by pairing a controller (a gamepad) via the Bluetooth protocol.

Of course, to play it, the vehicle must be parked.

But the trend is still going on…

Water vapor observed in the atmosphere of a small exoplanet – TVA Nouvelles

The Hubble Space Telescope has observed that the smallest known planet outside the solar system contains water in its atmosphere, the American (NASA) and European (ESA) space agencies announced Thursday.

• Also read: Even a small thing is enough to overwhelm the greenhouse effect and turn a blue planet into hell

• Also read: 120 light-years from Earth: An exoplanet could have the potential for life

“Water on such a small planet is a remarkable discovery,” said Laura Kreidberg of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany, co-director of the research. “This brings us closer than ever before to describing truly Earth-like worlds.”

The planet in question, GJ 9827d, which has a diameter about twice that of Earth, is located in the constellation Pisces, 97 light-years or more than 900,000 billion kilometers away, according to a press release from NASA and ESA.

These officials believe the planet is either a “mini-Neptune” – with a hydrogen-rich, water-rich atmosphere – or a hotter version of Jupiter's moon Europa, which contains twice as much water as Earth beneath its crust.

“GJ 9827d could be half water and half rock,” explained Björn Benneke of the University of Montreal, who co-led the research. “There would be a lot of water vapor on smaller lumps of rock.”

“So far we have not been able to directly detect the atmosphere of such a small planet. And we are getting there gradually,” he added.

For three years, Hubble was able to analyze the wavelengths of colors in GJ 9827d's atmosphere as the light from the star around which it orbited was filtered through its atmosphere, and detect the presence of water molecules.

Although this planet has a water-rich atmosphere, its temperature of 425°C makes it uninhabitable.

However, this discovery paves the way for further studies of GJ 9827d and similar planets, particularly using the James Webb Space Telescope, which can use its high-resolution infrared images to search for other atmospheric molecules such as carbon dioxide and methane.

Data protection: mistakes you shouldn't make on Android and iPhone – francoischarron.com

Published on January 25, 2024 Vincent Paquette

We all have iPhone or Android smartphones. However, we often make mistakes that can jeopardize the information we have about our personal, professional or business lives. Ultimately, we are responsible for the privacy of our devices. What means are there to ensure the protection of our personal data? How does this work easily? We share things with you.

The protection of our personal data is constantly threatened by various threats.

A website where you have an account may be the victim of a data breach. Hackers may try to attack us using various tactics. Then artificial intelligence can also be used to deceive us.

However, the device that is at greatest risk is our smartphones!

Why is it important to protect personal data on mobile devices?

Let's be clear that protecting personal data is important on every type of device.

However, smartphones are the devices that should be given the most importance.

For what?

Firstly, because almost everyone has one. Most of the web is accessed via mobile devices.

This makes it the biggest potential attack point for hackers.

Then, of course, most of the information is stored on these devices.

We enter our contacts there. We take photos there. Our communications (SMS, messages, emails, calls) occur through these devices. Sometimes we manage our finances through our banking application.

In short, the majority of our personal data resides on our phones.

If these fall into the wrong hands, we are exposed to the risk of fraud, viruses or even identity theft.

Here are some mistakes you shouldn't make with your iPhone or Android phone if you want to make sure you don't experience one of these nightmares.

Your phone is not adequately protected

It seems crazy to say this, but it's not uncommon to see people with no security on their phones at all.

All they have to do is lose or have their phones stolen and all their data is at risk!

Use a PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition

The most important thing is to enter at least a PIN code into our phone! And not only that, but also to avoid the infamous 0000. Now we might as well not have a PIN if we use such a simple code…

First of all, we should go for a 6-digit code and not a 4-digit one. Better yet, if our phone allows it, we should use an alphanumeric combination as it is much safer!

However, we can also save ourselves the hassle of entering a PIN by opting for fingerprint or facial recognition instead.

Some will say: “You're talking to us about protecting our data and you want us to give our fingerprint or our face? Isn’t that a bit contradictory?”

Maybe by sight. Not really.

Our biometric data is only stored securely on our device and is not shared with Apple, Google or other smartphone manufacturers.

These biometric protections remain the best protective barrier against a stranger getting their hands on our phone.

Enable location

Again, it may seem counterintuitive, but activating the Find My service on iPhone or Find My Device on Android remains a measure to consider.

These services allow us to find our device if we lose it or it is stolen.

We connect to our Apple ID or Google account via another device and can then locate our device and even lock it remotely!

Activate anti-theft protection

On this specific topic, Apple has been offering anti-theft protection on the iPhone since the iOS 17.3 update.

However, this feature is not enabled by default on Apple phones.

Here we explain how to activate anti-theft protection on an iPhone.

On Android we can remotely protect our phone in case of theft through the Find My Device service.

Ignore and don't update

It's a shame, but too many people choose to ignore their phone and not update it.

Some people fear that errors will occur or that the battery will run out more quickly after the update.

Of course, unfortunately it is not impossible for this to happen.

But the fact is that it is important to ALWAYS update as they contain security patches to close gaps that could expose our data.

Update iOS and Android

A new version of iOS on our iPhone is available? Or a new Android update on our phone?

We have every interest in doing this again to protect our device and the information stored on it.

Update our applications

The same applies to apps. They can also have vulnerabilities and security gaps.

Plus, it's super easy to update our apps on iOS and Android!

We give our apps too many permissions

What do we usually do when we download a new application? We keep urging: Authorize, authorize, authorize!

We don't even take the time to read, we give access to everything because we want to use the application in question quickly.

However, if we take a step back, we can easily question whether it makes sense to, for example, give a calculator application access to our location. Or give access to our photos for a weather application.

These are examples that seem crazy, but many apps ask for permissions that have nothing to do with the service they offer.

A NordVPN study found that 87% of Android applications and 60% of iOS applications requested permissions that were not necessary for their operation.

In short: it is worth cleaning up and changing the permissions that we have given to our mobile applications.

Click on something anywhere

We do pretty much everything on our phones. We surf the Internet. We shop online. We text. We receive emails.

All of these actions can make us want to quickly click on different links.

It could be a product we saw on a social network, a friend inviting us to watch a video, or an email asking us to click on a link to get one to resolve the situation.

However, we must always be on our guard and pay close attention to what we click on.

You are never too far away from falling victim to a phishing attack or, worse, a spear attack.

It is very important to remember tips for recognizing such attempts.

Snub antivirus and protection suites

As already mentioned, smartphones are the preferred target for hackers due to their popularity.

However, if there is one myth that persists in the world of mobile phones, it is that there are no viruses or threats on the iPhone.

On the Android side, manufacturers like Google, Samsung and others put their marketing focus on the protection solutions their phones offer.

Yes, the Titan M chip on Pixels or the Knox protection on Samsungs provide some security, but that's not enough.

Get a good antivirus software

This is not enough because these protections are not waterproof against all threats.

In addition, we are at the mercy of security updates to our defense systems.

For Pixels, system updates occur monthly. On Samsung too, but on certain devices… On others it can be quarterly (3 months) or even semi-annual (6 months) updates.

Unless a new threat appears on the Internet and our phone's defense system is not updated, this means that we are at risk.

This is why we always recommend using a good mobile antivirus.

These antivirus programs are made by companies that specialize in cybersecurity. They quickly detect new threats and quickly add them to their antivirus programs so they can identify and block them.

Additionally, these protection solutions usually cost between $15 and $20 per year. It would be crazy to give it up!

Our selection of mobile antivirus programs

Use a VPN when browsing public Wi-Fi

If we travel a lot or are constantly looking for a WiFi connection to save mobile data, we need to be careful when connecting to public WiFi.

For what? Because all the data that is transmitted between our phone and the website or application we are viewing is in plain text on the Wi-Fi network.

Anyone with a little computer knowledge and connected to the same Internet network can intercept our data.

For this reason, it is always in your best interest to use a VPN when connecting to a public Wi-Fi network.

What is a VPN? Basically, it is software that allows us to encrypt our internet connection so that our data is unreadable to anyone who wants to intercept it.

And we see you: Don't search for free VPNs on the Internet or in app stores! Free VPNs are either incomplete, slow or downright fraudulent as they intercept our data themselves!

It is always better to go for a paid solution with a good VPN with a good reputation.

Our VPN selection

Save your passwords in the notes application

We know it's not easy to navigate through all the passwords for our different accounts.

We can use the tricks to have a strong password, but we have to remember each of them, even if we have to use a different one for each of our accounts.

However, this is not a reason to use the note application on our phone and write down all our passwords!

These apps do not offer any security barriers.

Instead of using this, or worse, always using the same passwords, it is much more in your best interest to use a good password manager.

With these managers we can not only create secure passwords, but also store them extremely securely using an encryption process.

We can then lock everything with our fingerprint or especially our facial recognition.

Our password manager chooses

The James Webb Telescope suggests that life may have existed much earlier than previously thought – Futura

The birth cycle of stars from clouds of matter constantly enriched with heavy elements synthesized by stars before dying in supernovae leads to the chemical evolution of galaxies. The James Webb measurement has just made it possible to estimate oxygen abundance in galaxies less than two billion years after the Big Bang, and it makes it possible to imagine worlds comparable to Earth sooner than previously thought.

When radioactivity was discovered at the end of the 19th century, nothing was known about the atom and chemists had given up on the idea that one element could be converted into another, in this case lead into gold. But in the wake of Pierre and Marie Curie, the New Zealand physicist and chemist Ernest Rutherford demonstrated that radioactivity was accompanied by the decay of chemical elements, which earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908.

A core chemistry will develop around the conversion of elements, which will lead to brilliant developments in astrophysics after the Second World War. Then it becomes possible to first understand how the stars behave like thermonuclear alchemical furnaces, capable of nucleosynthesis of the elements up to iron from isotopes of hydrogen, helium, helium and lithium, lithium and lithium, produced by the original nucleosynthesis were created during the Big Bang.

The origin of chemical elements – Part 1. By Nicolas Prantzos, CNRS, Institute of Astrophysics of Paris. A video of the AstrobioEducation learning course. © French Society of Exobiology

Stellar nucleosynthesis leading to the formation of galaxies

The late Hubert Reeves, who often spoke about stellar nucleosynthesis and the birth of the observable universe, had begun his scientific career precisely in the 1950s, at the height of the boom in nuclear astrophysics marked by an important 1957 paper, which revealed nothing less than the recipe followed by the universe to produce the chemical elements in the stars. The paper has since become known among astrophysicists and nuclear physicists as B2FH, after the initials of its authors, British astrophysicist Margaret Burbidge and her husband Geoffrey Burbidge, along with Fred Hoyle and Nobel Prize winner in physics William Fowler.

We now know that the cosmos arose without nuclei of oxygen, carbon, carbon and nitrogennitrogen, and without iron, magnesium, magnesium, silicon, sodium, sodium and aluminumaluminum. These cores form in the hearts of stars, which they launch into the interstellar medium through the explosion of supernovae in clouds of matter that, through gravitational collapse, produce new stars, stars that we now know will largely surround themselves with a protoplanetary diskprotoplanetary disk in which planets are born. Some will be rocky like Earth and based on silicates. Silicates, and carbon, nitrogen and oxygen compounds may have sometimes given rise to life forms similar to those we know on Earth.

The origin of chemical elements – Part 2. © Société Française d'Exobiologie

Stars form in galaxies and cause them to evolve chemically. Therefore, it is important for exobiologists who want to understand the origins of life in the observable cosmos to figure out when enough oxygen nuclei arose to make the emergence of life possible.

The James Webb Space Telescope has just provided some answers by more accurately measuring the amount of oxygen present in the stars of galaxies in the past, a team of researchers led by Japan's Kimihiko Nakajima of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) explains in an article that can be found in open access on arXiv.

Galaxies that are just as oxygen-rich as those we have today at the beginning of the cosmos

Professor Masami Ouchi, a member of the research team behind this article, explains in a press release from the Cosmic Ray Research Institute (cosmic rays) at the University of Tokyo that “the process of producing and storing oxygen in galaxies has long fascinated scientists.” The discovery A rapid increase in oxygen abundance in the early universe around 13.1 to 13.3 billion years ago suggests that life in the universe may have emerged earlier than “we previously thought.”

The standard cosmological model, based on data from the Planck mission, tells us that the observable cosmos is about 13.8 billion years old. Before James-Webb, we could barely measure oxygen levels in galaxies younger than 2 billion years.

But the JWST allowed Japanese researchers to reach further into the past with its near-infrared spectrograph (NIRSpecNIRSpec) by determining the content of oxygen nuclei in 138 galaxies.

They found that between 500 and 700 million years after the Big Bang, the abundances were half those observed in younger galaxies and were then comparable. Therefore, there was a rapid and early evolution in the chemical composition of galaxies, which made it possible to imagine planetary systems as oxygen-rich as ours as early as 700 million years after the Big Bang.

Are we alone in the Universe? Maybe you've asked yourself the question before… We find answers in films, literature or science fiction comics and our imaginations are populated by alien creatures! But what does science say about this? The AstrobioEducation website invites you to discover exobiology, an interdisciplinary science whose aim is to study the origin of life and its research elsewhere in the universe. On an educational journey divided into 12 stages, researchers from various disciplines will help you understand how science works to answer the fascinating questions about the origin of life and its research elsewhere than on Earth. © French Society of Exobiology

Thanks to the EU, Fortnite will be available again on iPhone in 2024 – Frandroid

This turnaround is a big change, not just for Epic Games and Apple, but for the entire mobile app world.

Thanks to the EU Fortnite will be available again on

It's official, Fortnite is officially returning to iPhone in 2024 (the game has been kicked out of the App Store). And you know what ? All of this is thanks to a 180-degree turnaround in Apple's policy to comply with the European Union's new rules.

Epic Games, the publisher of Fortnite, has announced that they will be launching their own App Store on iPhone, similar to what they did on Android.

This news comes after a long legal battle between Epic Games, Apple and Google over the famous App Store and Play Store commissions.

In fact, Apple just revised its App Store policy. Now they are leaving the door open for third-party app stores on iOS devices. This is a big change from before, when only the Apple App Store was allowed and the commissions made people cringe.

Epic Games doesn't waste time

Epic Games doesn't waste time and announces plans to launch its own alternative app store for the iPhone. This means they can offer Fortnite directly to iPhone users without going through the App Store and without paying Apple's famous commissions.
