Google Pixel Drop 2024: New features with AI – Connect

Google has revealed the new features of its Pixel Drop 2024 and the strong theme is obviously AI.

This is an exciting time for Pixel users, especially those who own the 8 and 8 Pro models. Although it has to be said that some new features seem to come directly from the Samsung Galaxy S24, which was introduced ten days ago.

Google is starting the year with a series of updates focused on innovative artificial intelligence features. Good news for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro owners: This feature will be available starting January 31st.

Circle to search

The first of these is the “Surround to Search” feature. You can start a search by simply circling an item on the screen, similar to an interactive screenshot. Be it text or image, no matter what the content is, this feature is a breeze.

Magical composing

The second new feature is called “Magic Compose”. She is reinventing the way of writing news. Using AI, this feature transforms everyday text into a stylistic masterpiece, whether you're looking for a professional, dramatic, lyrical, or Molière-worthy tone.

This feature is available on Pixel 6 and later and is exclusive to Google Messages. Special mention for the Pixel 8 Pro: Thanks to the integrated AI called Gemini Nano, your data is processed directly on the device, ensuring optimal confidentiality.

Photomoji

Google is also introducing Photomoji, a feature that lets you turn your photos into personalized reactions in Google Messages. Google is also replacing Nearby Share with Quick Share, promising even faster data exchange and integrating an attractive new icon.

Émile Bilodeau flies over Quebec in new “River” music video – LanauWeb

After a decade of traveling the French-speaking world, with particular attention to Quebec, which is so dear to him, Émile Bilodeau has no intention of stopping anytime soon, but sometimes dreams of a break during which he can travel the world and find his roots could in a relaxed way – a fabulous trot he describes in “Fleuve,” taken from his fifth album, “Au bar des Hopes,” released last fall under Bravo. A new music video illustrating the spaces, movements and anticipated nostalgia is now available.

I want to travel for two whole years
I want to meet people all over the world

On a guitar as gentle as a river breeze, Émile tells us about this dream travel project and ” [d’]”Desire to see something different”, which he cannot carry out because his career as a musician prevents him from doing so – and assures us that, should this happen, he will continue to follow the news from the province (especially the activities of the CH) and I would also need a weekly video conference to hear the eponymous St. Lawrence River…in short, he wouldn't hear as much, but it's a sign that he loves us! The excerpt is now supplemented by an ad hoc clip as a homage to the province and everything that is there. This gives us access to special moments from Émile's current tour: the installation in the room, the camaraderie between musicians and the technical team, the exuberant crowd. But we also see what happens between shows that makes touring life so unique: getting to know locals, be it in a supermarket or at an outdoor ice rink. And the famous river, which, like the artist, offers a spectacle and reminds Émile that he is home.

Because when I hear the St. Lawrence River
My friend, I feel like a child
I feel the strong wind and then inside
Like an emptiness that constantly guides me

The music video for “Fleuve” was produced and directed by Upawa (Soufiane Benrqiq). Émile Bilodeau's Au Bar des Espoirs tour continues across Quebec – see all dates at emilebilodeau.ca

European Union | Apple is backwards adapting to the new regulation of digital markets – La Presse

(Paris) Apple announced on Thursday that it would make changes to its iOS operating system, its Safari browser and its App Store application store within the European Union effective March, reluctantly complying with the new regulation of digital markets Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will then come into force.

Posted at 4:38 p.m.

share

Specifically, from the release of version 17.4 of iOS on their famous iPhone or iPad, developers will be able to offer alternative app stores verified by Apple.

The solutions developed by the Apple brand will no longer be the only payment options, especially contactless payments.

And when users first open Safari, they can choose their browser from a list of competitors. Previously, you had to go to the settings to make this change.

These changes come with new pricing conditions for developers.

“The changes we are announcing today are consistent with the requirements of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, while helping to protect EU users from the inevitable increased privacy and security threats that this regulation brings,” argues Phil Schiller, vice president of marketing at Apple. quoted in a press release criticizing the DMA.

“Even if these guarantees exist, many risks remain,” adds the Cupertino group, whose security is one of the most important marketing arguments. In his opinion, he also regrets a “less intuitive user experience”.

Apple, like five other digital giants – Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Microsoft and China's ByteDance (TikTok) – will be subject to the DMA from March 7, which introduces stricter rules to curb anti-competitive practices the EU.

Companies that violate the regulations face fines of up to 20% of their global sales if they repeat their violations, and in the most serious cases even dismantling measures.

The legislation is the subject of legal challenges, particularly from Meta and TikTok.

$42,000 to support academic persistence – L'Hebdo du Saint-Maurice

COMMUNITY. On September 8th, no fewer than 140 golfers accepted the invitation of the Industrial Alliance and took part in the golf tournament in aid of the Foundation of the Works of Abbots Martel and Marcil. The event was held under the honorary presidency of Denis Ricard, president of the Industrial Alliance and a Shawinigan native.

At the end of that day, thanks to the numerous sponsors and Mr. Ricard's generous donation of $15,000, a record $42,000 was provided to the Foundation to enable it to pursue its mission focused on academic perseverance.

The golf tournament in favor of the works of Abbots Martel and Marcil has been an annual event for almost thirty years and was initiated by various organizations over the years before taking a break due to the pandemic. At the initiative of the Industrial Alliance, activities at the Sainte-Flore Golf Club resumed last year. The Fondation des Œuvres would also like to highlight the organizers Sylvain Forget, Geneviève Marcouiller and Jean St-Arnaud, as well as the 20 volunteers who made this day a success.

More graduates, less poverty

Since its founding in 1995, the Foundation of the Works of Abbots Martel and Marcil has supported poor families and people in the region. Last year, it refocused its mission to focus solely on academic persistence.

This component, added in 2012, leads him to take under his wing young vulnerable students at the École lycée des Chutes in Shawinigan. From Secondary 1 to Secondary 5, these young people are cared for by the teacher Joane Boisvert, who takes care of preventing or eliminating irritations that can sometimes lead to dropping out of school. Upon graduation, Works' young participants receive a $2,500 scholarship to give them a helping hand for the rest of their future.

14 young people are currently benefiting from this success support program.

Young people testify

This year, the team behind the organization of the golf tournament was able to count on the presence of three students from Des Chutes Secondary School who are enrolled in the program. They volunteered during the day and then gave moving testimonies about their journey and the meaning of the works in their lives. Without a doubt the highlight of the evening!

After a historic mission, NASA's helicopter will no longer fly on Mars – TVA Nouvelles

NASA announced on Thursday the end of the mission of its small helicopter on Mars called Ingenuity after it damaged at least one of its rotor blades during its 72nd and final flight.

“What Ingenuity has accomplished goes far beyond what we thought possible,” NASA chief Bill Nelson said in a video. The helicopter “paved the way for future flights in our solar system.”

In 2021, Ingenuity became the first powered device to fly on another planet.

On its 72nd flight last week, the helicopter reached a height of 12 meters, but communications abruptly stopped shortly before landing.

It was eventually restored, but a few days later NASA teams discovered damage to a rotor blade.

“We are looking into the possibility that the blade may have hit the ground,” Bill Nelson said.

The helicopter is now “no longer airworthy,” NASA confirmed in a press release, saying the causes of the communications disruption were still being investigated.

Ingenuity was originally intended for only five launches, but the mission exceeded all expectations.

In total, the helicopter covered around 17 kilometers and reached a height of 24 meters.

He arrived on Mars with the Perseverance rover, whose mission is to find traces of ancient microbial life on Mars.

This allowed him to take on the role of an aerial reconnaissance officer to help his wheeled companion.

Its longevity is remarkable, especially considering that it has had to endure freezing nights on Mars and warms itself thanks to solar panels that charge its batteries during the day.

A great challenge to introduce a team… In alphabetical order (that's civil servant or big company), by title (wow, in a small team like ours we're all vice presidents of something). Orderly disorder reigns here.

François Charron

Site editor and columnist

François Charron launched his eponymous website in 2005. From day one, it was aimed primarily at the general public. François takes on the challenge of making technology simple and attractive for beginners. An animator, designer, producer and entrepreneur, François Charron was not only a columnist and web popularizer, but also part of the morning television show Salut, Bonjour for almost 20 years.
In addition to spreading the word about the world of technology, he also enjoys playing the “Robin of the Web” by introducing people to tools that can save money when using the web or applications. François Charron and his partners are behind the Club Boomerang cashback program.
As a speaker, he presents his online fraud prevention conference across Quebec. We hear it every week on several radio stations across the province. We can see and hear him in his two podcasts La vie est belle, in which he receives people who inspire him, and in the update that he co-hosts with Vincent Paquet, columnist and editor-in-chief of the website francoischarron.com.

The techno and sports enthusiast (he already worked at RDS plus collects jerseys and other items signed by players) quickly established himself in the website's editorial team and became editor-in-chief.
Like anyone who produces content for the site, Vincent wants to make things that seem complicated simple. He is our chief tester. New phones, televisions, speakers and other networked home devices shape the everyday life of his small family, which he often turns into product testers.

In 2022, he also became managing director of Synonyme media, the production house behind the website francoischarron.com, combining the roles of editor-in-chief and columnist.

Anik Dessureault

columnist

The journey of Anik Dessureault, columnist at francoischarron.com, is extremely inspiring.

As a young, trendy graphic designer, she gives birth to little Tom, who is born with a challenge: he is autistic. Mom quickly discovers that she can communicate with him more easily through pictures. She and her partner then launched IDÉOpicto, a system of magnetic pictograms to communicate appropriately and better understand each other. Your images help families around the world.

Years later, his father Yves was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The one who turns life's lemons into lemonade quickly realizes that her concept of pictograms can help people like her father. MÉMOpicto was born!

François Charron was Anik’s marketing and content coach for years. One fine morning, looking for new challenges, François asked him to join the site's editorial team and join our mission to make the world of technology easier for the general public.

A total of 10,000 content sheets were created online for the first time. It cost us a lot of time! A job carried out while the hot summer sun called for an aperitif on the terrace….!!!

Microsoft will lay off 1,900 employees at Activision and Xbox – LesAffaires.com

(Photo: 123RF)

NEW YORK – Microsoft will lay off 1,900 employees at its Xbox console subsidiary and Activision Blizzard, several American media outlets said on Thursday, barely more than three months after completing its takeover of the video game publisher.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to AFP's request to confirm this figure, which represents about 9% of teams dedicated to this activity, according to an internal memo published by several media outlets.

Posted in a message on

“This is an incredibly difficult day,” the manager wrote, noting that Thursday was his “last day” at the company, where 22,000 employees are responsible for video games, consoles or software.

Microsoft had to wait more than 20 months to complete its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard as regulatory hurdles were finally cleared.

In an internal letter published by several American media outlets, Microsoft's head of video games, Phil Spencer, justified the decision with the desire to align the company with “a sustainable cost structure.”

He pointed to “duplication” and Microsoft’s intention to prioritize projects that generate potential growth.

These job cuts come at a time when other major video game companies have recently announced layoffs.

On Monday, Riot Games, publisher of the game League of Legends and a subsidiary of China's Tencent, announced the upcoming reduction of its workforce by around 11%, or 530 jobs.

At the beginning of January, the streaming platform Twitch, an Amazon subsidiary popular with gamers, announced that it wanted to lay off 500 employees, around a third of the total.

Last year, Microsoft, like most tech giants with the notable exception of Apple, had already been cutting its workforce, with an initial wave of 10,000 job cuts announced in January, followed by another wave in the summer.
