The Canadian asked about Zegras

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is clearly interested in adding offensive talent to his roster and has reportedly gathered information on Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras.

At least that's what TSN network informant Pierre LeBrun said on air on Tuesday.

“Of the four or five teams that I've been told are called the Ducks, the Montreal Canadiens is one of them. So it's true and why shouldn't they? However, at the moment I don't get the impression that the Ducks are committed to trading him.

After two consecutive seasons with more than 60 points, in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, the American is having a much harder time this year. Zegras notably suffered from multiple injuries, most recently to his left ankle, and managed just four goals and three assists for seven points in 20 games in 2023-24.

In October, the ninth overall pick in the 2019 National Hockey League draft signed a three-year contract with the California team averaging $5.75 million per season.

According to several rumors, these contract negotiations also fueled tensions between the two parties.

Zegras, 22, played with Habs forward Cole Caufield on the United States U17 and U18 squads between 2017 and 2019.
