Inspired by the team’s veterans on offense and by goalkeeper Mathis Rousseau (33 saves) on defense, the visitors from Nova Scotia set the tone from the first period and maintained control until the end.
The club’s three 20-year-old forwards, Evan Boucher, Josh Lawrence and Stéphane Huard Jr., led the winners’ offense with a goal each in the first 35 minutes of the game.
After starting the game with two consecutive penalties, the home side held on and then created good chances without breaking through the opposing goalkeeper’s wall.
lack of opportunism
“The lack of opportunism has changed the game. The boys had their chances without being able to score. In these times you have to put more pucks in the net with more traffic to disrupt the goalie,” commented pilot Jean-François Grégoire.
The Drakkar, sidelined for the third time since the start of the season, didn’t play a bad game against an experienced team.
“Despite the setback, the players kept working and didn’t give up. We must now concentrate on tomorrow’s meeting [dimanche] against Chicoutimi. »
great absence
Markus Vidicek (in an empty goal) scored the other goal for the winner who was without the services of Courteau Circuit top scorer Jordan Dumais for the second year in a row.
Niks Fenenko, the Drakkar’s best defender since the start of the season, injured an eye in the previous game against Acadie-Bathurst Titan and traveled to Quebec City for surgery that will keep him out for a few weeks.
The members of the Côte-Nord crew will again be in front of their fans on Sunday to receive a visit from the Saguenéens.
