What will Jim Carrey think when he wakes up each morning in his mansion in Brentwood, California? How will you evaluate your life as you walk through this five-bedroom, nine-bathroom home with a pool, spa and tennis court? Will you be happy as you walk the halls of the estate you bought for four million dollars that is now worth ten million dollars? When you look at your life through the lens that some consider success, you can't help but smile. For years he was the king of comedies in Hollywood, earning $20 million per film and his name was known around the world. But when you look at your life through the lens some call happiness, the smile may turn into a grimace.

Although he holds American citizenship, Carrey was born on January 17, 1962 in Ontario, Canada. He had a complicated childhood. His mother, Kathleen, loved her children very much, but with uncontrollable hypochondria, she spent almost all of her time with an imaginary illness. Her youngest son discovered that she was less distressed when he could make her laugh. “My mother was lying in bed and taking a bunch of painkillers. I wanted him to get better. I would enter his room, imitate a praying mantis, do strange things, jump off the walls, or throw myself down the stairs to make him laugh.”

Laughing not only helped his mother, but also his father. Percy worked as an administrative clerk. But from one day to the next the man lost his job and the family had to move into a mobile home, the step before surviving on the streets. Arguments between his parents became more and more frequent, and to stop them, Jim began dancing until they laughed.

Eventually, Percy got a job as a security guard and his children as cleaners at a tire factory. The workday lasted eight hours and Jim had to leave school. The father noticed that his youngest son was gradually losing the joy that made him unique and encouraged him to try himself as a comedian in local bars.

The premiere took place when he was 15 and was a humiliating failure. Dressed in a yellow polyester suit his mother had made for him, he tried to tell a few jokes and the audience responded with a thunderous, almost endless boo. Far from giving up, he improved his act and word of mouth did the rest. Word began to spread that there was a little boy who had a unique talent for changing his facial expressions and making people laugh with more than eighty impersonations brought. The most famous were Clint Eastwood, Elvis Presley, James Stewart and of course Jerry Lewis, another great actor.
