It seemed like a great idea: finish Ironman Tallinn in Estonia and ask his girlfriend to marry him. How hard could it be? Well, if reaching the end of the race could be a challenge, Spaniard Cristian Moriatiel’s marriage proposal turned out to be an even more difficult test: the cramps almost prevented him from reaching his ultimate goal. After placing sixth in the male 40-44 age group in 9:28:26, Moriatiel knelt, ring in hand, only to collapse convulsively.
But as we all know, “anything goes” in Ironman. And no, contrary to the moderator’s words, it wasn’t “the worst marriage proposal of all time”. And she said yes.
