The Italian pilot recruited in Kyiv is the only woman in the Foreign Legion

“I’m here because I don’t want war. And if you manage to stop here, you won’t come home. Will I stay until the war is over? Yes, I have no plans to go. ‘ So Giulia Schiff the 23yearold former Air Force pilot who is currently fighting in Kyiv as a volunteer in the special forces of the International Legion in Ukraine in the Hyenas TV report on Italia 1.
In her interview, conducted via video call from Kyiv, Giulia tells how she managed to enlist in the international legion. “I found a few other people who had Italian passports but didn’t speak Italian. The Legion includes people from all over the world, from Canada, England, Brazil, some from Israel and even Kurds. Everyone gives themselves a nickname here. Some call me Jasmine, I’m the only woman: they all adore me, they treat me like a princess. As a pilot, they initially wanted to send me to Kyiv airport, but now it has become a hotspot,” explains the 23yearold, who was armed with a gun and after attending briefings and mapping the missions was already involved in one of them: ”My first assignment was challenging, but it went well,” he says.
The Russian military “kills and rapes women and children. Kill? If I do that, I won’t say it,” continues Giulia, who is launching an appeal so that all people fleeing the war are welcome, “because if it had happened to us, we would have wanted it that way”. The former Air Force pilot will also show tools for performing compressions and resuscitation, as well as tourniquets, which she always carries with her. “I’m not here to comb the dolls,” explains Giulia.
