‘The Passion of the Christ’ actor Christo Jivkov has died of cancer at the age of 48

Christo Jivkov, the Bulgarian actor who played in the Saint John film Mel Gibson from The Passion of the Christ in 2004, died after a battle with cancer. Red Carpet Films, a Bulgarian film company he co-founded, released an emotional statement bidding farewell to its founder and adding that “there are no words to describe the pain of this loss”.

“Today we lost our dear friend and dear colleague Christo Jivkov, co-founder of Red Carpet. We are truly devastated by this unexpected loss. We will never forget you!’ The company announced this on Facebook.

Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, who was very close to the actor, decided to remember him through her social networks. In the message, translated from Italian, he wrote: “I still don’t want to believe you’re gone… endless pain. Hello Christo, my friend, gentle soul, your struggle for life was the struggle of all who love you,” he wrote.
