Supermassive Games has unveiled The Quarry, the spiritual successor to Until Dawn, launching June 10th. As with Until Dawn, the cast consists of several recognizable actors.
The Quarry is a teen horror game where players control nine different characters as they try to survive the last night of summer camp, and just like Until Dawn, anyone can survive and anyone can die.
Supermassive promises groundbreaking interactive storytelling in an unpredictable night of horror with lots of flirting and fear as relationships between characters are built and broken through the tense decisions players make.
Director Will Biles told IGN that each character has 10 to 12 different potential deaths. He said The Quarry “is like a circular story and each of these characters is a spoke going towards the middle”, meaning that any one of those spokes can be broken without affecting the rest of the narrative.
Quarry – List of actors
- Ariel Winter – Modern Family, Speed Racer
- Ethan Suplee – “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Remember the Titans, My Name is Earl”

An early death for each character would result in approximately seven hours of gameplay, but Biles estimated that most playthroughs would be around ten hours. He said that The Quarry is highly replayable, as at the end of each playthrough, players are given different cards depicting each character’s conclusion.
There are 187 of these trading cards in total, giving fans of completion to explore every inch of The Quarry’s branching story.

The game can also be played in co-op, both locally and online. The former allows each player to select an advisor to manage, while the online game allows other users to watch the playthrough and vote on each decision.
Allowing people to play together is what Supermassive wanted to do after the popularity of Until Dawn, according to Biles.
“It was almost like a game/movie and we definitely wanted to keep it going,” he said. “We didn’t know how social it was when other people were sitting.”
The Quarry also features multiple accessibility options that allow players to fully customize their gameplay experience, whether they’re playing solo or in co-op.
Various gameplay components such as quick events, button presses, aiming and shooting can be turned on and off even between characters. “If you’re playing with your grandparents, you can play your version with your character, and then their characters can have it all turned off,” Biles said.
The game can even be played almost like a movie with very little interaction, indicative of the various influences of the films.
Quarry Characters
Like Until Dawn, The Quarry combines a youth slasher with creature characters, and Biles said players are likely to see influences from a host of horror films, including Friday the 13th, The Thing and The Evil Dead. .
Continuing the Hollywood theme, it also features an all-star cast including David Arquette from Scream, Ariel Winter from Modern Family, Justice Smith from Detective Pikachu, Brenda Song from The Social Network, Lance Henriksen from Aliens and Ling Shay from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Players will be able to see them all in action when The Quarry arrives on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series and One this summer, and on PC via Steam.
