Titanic (1997) director James Cameron denied Saturday (15) that he is in talks with a major streaming network to produce a drama series about the Titan submersible, which imploded in June, killing five people during an expedition . to the sunken ship in the ocean. The information was published by British tabloid The Sun on Friday (14) and caused a huge response.
“I don’t normally respond to offensive rumors in the media, but now I have to. I am not involved in any discussions of an OceanGate movie and never will be,” Cameron wrote on Twitter.
The Sun had reported that a streaming network had reached out to the acclaimed director to tell the story of the five men who died on the submarine last month.

“The Titanic disaster is already recognized as a major series by one of the largest streaming networks in the world and James is the top choice to direct it. It’s a subject close to his heart. He told the story of the Titanic with so much compassion that it felt like a natural step for him to do so. Tracing the trail of the people aboard Titan is a mammoth task, but it would take a lot of time, money and resources,” a source reportedly told the newspaper.
Cameron won three Oscars for Titanic, including best picture, and is also one of the world’s leading experts on the ship that sank in 1912. On one of his 33 expeditions to the wreck, he remained trapped at the bottom of the sea for 16 hours, believing that would die.

A submarine visiting the Titanic wreck disappeared almost 4,000 meters deep in the Atlantic last Sunday (18). The ship carried five passengers for a trip on the seabed. US and Canadian authorities race against time to save all living before oxygen runs out.
The passengers paid the equivalent of more than R$ 1 million to take part in the expedition. All are trapped in a pod with little mobility, where they are forced to remain seated crosslegged, with some sort of bowl acting as a toilet.
