The UN welcomes the Cuban dictatorship Nicola Porro

Better things in Cuba

In Havana, the UN Secretary General, the Portuguese socialist Guterres, welcomes the Cuban dictatorship

The G-77-China summit, which ended in Havana, was a kind of dress rehearsal for a coordinated action by several countries at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Tuesday 19th, where Lula will be the first to speak in New York . All with the presence and support of the organization’s Secretary General, the Portuguese socialist Antonio Guterres. “Right now, the Global South is central to the deep reforms that need to be carried out in the international financial architecture created after World War II,” Guterres told Prensa Latina, the Cuban dictatorship’s official news agency. While the regime arrested dozens of democratic Cuban citizens at the summit in Havana, anti-imperialist rhetoric exploded with the paradox of a country with imperial ambitions, namely China, as a special guest. The representative of Burkina Faso ended his speech by shouting “Home or death, we will win!”

Nevertheless, the G-77 is the dialogue and cooperation mechanism chosen by the United Nations at the same level as the G-7 or the G-20, bringing together 134 developing and underdeveloped countries of Latin America, Africa and even Asia If Guterres the label of “Global South”, which is now very popular on the left and which, with the presence of China, unites three quarters of the world’s population.

Guterres met Raul Castro and the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolas Maduro, who asked the Portuguese for help “to denounce the financial persecution, pressure and imposition of unilateral coercive measures against the Bolivarian Republic.” “Enough with the persecutions against the peoples of the world who want their own independence and build their own models!” he told him. He then called on the G-77 and China to be stronger in their positions: “Much more needs to be done.” In Havana, it was a triumph over the rejection of the US embargo against Cuba, as Lula said from the stage : “Cuba, an example of world government, is still the victim of an illegal economic blockade.” The Brazilian then emphasized that “Brazil is against any coercive measure of a unilateral nature” and rejected the fact that Cuba remains on the “list of states who support terrorism.”

Xiomara Castro, the Chavista president of Honduras, spoke of “the greatest genocidal blockade that human history has ever seen,” referring to the US embargo against the communist dictatorship. Lula also obviously called for money to save the planet: “The principle of common but, to be clear, differentiated responsibilities remains valid!” Therefore, climate finance must be guaranteed by rich countries to all developing countries according to their needs and priorities.” Lula He concluded his speech by adding that “southern countries have all the prerequisites to be at the forefront of science, technology and innovation.” Guterres said the same: “I count on this group, long a champion of multilateralism, to step up, use its power and fight to defend a system based on equality,” the United Nations Secretary-General told Prensa Latina.
