Some superstitions are uncommon in sports, while others are just plain weird. Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman’s latest idea is proof of that.
Last year, the Fighting Irish player went under the knife to remove a rib from his chest. Instead of leaving this useless bone in the trash, Hartman decided to put it in the freezer and turn it into… a necklace.

It is the footballer’s mother who will shape the rib, two inches long and one inch wide – which has nothing to do with a shark’s tooth – to make it more presentable. The gem will be ready for the start of the season on Aug. 26, ESPN learned Thursday.
According to The Athletic, Lisa Hartman initially believed her son’s joke, just like the doctors, before realizing he meant business. She now uses peroxide to remove the last bits of meat and sticks mussels to the bones.
Hartman completed five seasons in the NCAA, all at Wake Forest University. In 2022, he threw for 3,701 yards for 38 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.
