Syrian media reports that Israeli forces have launched an attack on Damascus. The attack today targeted a populated area of the Syrian capital, the official SANA agency said without providing further details. National television emphasized that “an Israeli rocket attack was aimed at the residential neighborhood of Kafr Sousa.”
According to the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, the preliminary toll of the attack is three dead: in addition to two non-Syrian people, possibly Iranian or Lebanese, a Syrian passerby was killed who was hit by shrapnel from the explosion. The raid targeted a building used as an operational headquarters by Iran's Pasdaran and Lebanon's Hezbollah. The Observatory commented that it was “a targeted assassination attempt” against one or more Iranian or Iranian-linked figures.
According to the Syrian opposition website Sawt al-Asima (“The Voice of the Capital”), the attack left three dead and eight injured. Syrian officials, for their part, confirmed to Arabic-language broadcaster Sky News that the target of the attack was an “Iranian personality.”
According to the first images released by Syrian state television, the 10-story building affected by the attack attributed to Israel was attacked on the fifth floor. The structure of the building is intact. On one of the facades there are clear signs of an explosion that occurred in one of the apartments on the fifth floor after the bullet entered through one of the windows, the edges of which were blackened.
Witnesses and local media reported hearing a large explosion in the Syrian capital Damascus hours after an Israeli rocket attack. This was reported by Sky News Arabic. The Syrian National Observatory for Human Rights said a new Israeli attack hit a stronghold of Hezbollah and other pro-Iran militias in the Sayida Zeinab neighborhood on the southern outskirts of the city.
A few hours later, Israel attacked Iranian-linked targets around Damascus for the third time. Also according to the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, targets “connected to Iran” were attacked southwest of Damascus in the Dimas area. According to sources, this third attack was carried out by artillery shells fired from the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, disputed between Syria and the Jewish state.
