The arch-favorite in the Republican primaries heading into November's presidential election had said no word about Navalny's death, which was announced Friday in an Arctic prison, nor about Moscow or the Kremlin.

In a message on his network Truth Social on Monday, Donald Trump wrote: “The sudden death of Alexei Navalny has made me increasingly aware of what is happening in our country.”

“It is a slow and steady progress that is leading us down the path of destruction with corrupt politicians, prosecutors and judges of the radical left,” lamented the businessman and political tribune, without mentioning the Russian president.

He attacked the administration of President Biden, who succeeded him in January 2021.

“Open borders, rigged elections and downright unfair court rulings are DESTROYING AMERICA. We are a declining and failing nation! MAGA 2024,” concluded Donald Trump with his favorite campaign slogans in all caps.

Nikki Haley, his only rival in the Republican primary, said on ABC television Sunday: “The fact that he doesn't say anything about Navalny shows that he's either on Putin's side and thinks it's good for him to say nothing about Navalny kills political opponents, or…'He just doesn't think it's a big deal.'

Navalny's death, on which the Kremlin has remained silent, sparked a wave of outrage in Western countries, with President Joe Biden saying his Russian counterpart was “responsible.”
