Raymundo Garduno Cruz and Juan Francisco Gonzalez Aguilarserial actor Netflix “The Chosen One”died June 16 in a car accident after the van they were traveling in with six other members of the production overturned on the Peninsular Freeway off the Santa Rosalía-Loreto section in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
The six injured were taken to the Health Center and Medical Unit for Families of the Mexican Social Security Institute in Loreto, a town close to the scene of the accident.
The Baja California Sur government mourned the deaths of the state actors and issued a statement expressing condolences to the families of the victims.
“The Secretary of Culture for Baja California deeply regrets the passing of Raymundo Garduño Cruz, acclaimed set designer, actor and patron of the Inmigrantes Teatro company and organizer of the ICBC Children’s Theater Week. The artistic and Baja California community loses a key cultural executive and great lover of performing arts.”
Another tweet said: “The Baja California Department of Culture deeply regrets the passing of well-known Baja California promoter, actor and musician Juan Francisco González Aguilar ‘Paco Mufote’. The artist and Baja California community has lost a great talent.”
Netflix actor denounces negligence and bad working conditions
After the deaths of Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, novelist Rick Zazueta denounced poor working conditions on the production floor, citing the production company RedRum and producer Sacy Parskie and director Everardo Gout in his profile.

“His death is a tragedy, not only because of the theft of this talent, but mostly because these deaths are guilty. For weeks, people close to this production have known that the logistics were terrible. The actors keep complaining about how badly they are treated specifically on the subject of transport and logistics”.
Zazueta described that the drivers who drove the vehicles in poor condition are tired: ” Old flat tires with slick tires, tired and overworked drivers […] Actors are transported like cattle to save a few pesos. This production must be stopped immediately. Its producer Stacy Perskie and director Everardo Gout need official editing,” he added in his release.
They point to Netflix as part of the culprit
The novelist reiterates that the famous ‘streaming’ platform is also to blame: “Netflix has blood on its hands too, the multi-million dollar company chose to work outside of the ANDA actors’ union and made the deal with them who are now responsible for these deaths – Everardo Gout and Stacy Perskie”.
What is “The Chosen One” about?
The Chosen One is a series produced by RedRum for the Netflix platform, set in a natural setting in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
It tells the story of “a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is Jesus Christ and that he has returned to earth to save mankind,” the streaming company explained.
The plot is based on the comic series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross.
