Ukraine suspects that Russia was behind the poisoning of the wife of Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, an army spokesman said on Tuesday (28).

Marianna Budanova, the victim, was hospitalized more than a week ago and is being treated in Kiev.

According to the army, it was an intentional poisoning with heavy metals, mainly mercury and arsenic, and not an accident.

The target of the poisoning was Marianna Budanova herself, not her husband. It is impossible for the army spokesman to directly poison the head of the secret service, which is why the Russians also did this to his wife.

The head of the secret service stated on another occasion that the woman lived with him and that the two lived at work.

The Russian government said nothing about the poisoning. There are other cases in which the Russian government is accused of poisoning people.

According to Ukrainian press outlets, the metals used in the poisoning are not used in Ukrainian equipment, which is why the intelligence services believe that the food was deliberately poisoned.
