The United States accused Hamas this Sunday (15) of blocking the agreement to open the border between the south of the Gaza Strip and Egypt to the passage of foreign citizens.
According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, both the Egyptian and Israeli governments which are negotiating with US mediation to open the border have already agreed to create a corridor for the exit of foreigners. But the terrorist group that rules the Gaza Strip blocked the opening, Sullivan said.
“The Egyptians agreed to allow the Americans to cross the border through Rafah (the border town). The Israelis assured that they would try as much as they could to ensure the security of the area. Yesterday (14) we tried.” “Remove a group (of North American citizens) Americans), but the point is that Hamas prevented this,” the adviser said in an interview with North American broadcaster CBS.
Thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of foreigners gathered this Saturday morning in Rafah, the border town between the southern Gaza Strip and northeastern Egypt this is the only exit from the Gaza Strip outside the borders with Israel, and since Thursday (12), the governments of Israel and Israel’s Egypt is negotiating the opening of the checkpoint in that city.
The agreement, however only provides for the departure of foreigners Hamas and the Egyptian government have already stated that Palestinian citizens will not be allowed entry.
