USA: Arrest of 32 stranded Cubans and another 11 discovered in a truck

That United States Border Patrol (CBP, for its English acronym) was announced this Wednesday, April 32 Cuban migrants stranded on an island nearby Floridaand another 11 who hid in a truck after getting out.

The island, ruled by the Communist Party, is experiencing one of the worst economic, social and human rights crises in its history, driving Cubans to emigrate en masse, mainly to the United States.

Many migrants choose the Central American route, which takes them to Mexico’s northern border, where they face extortion, assault and greater dangers, while others head out to sea in precarious boats.

Since October 1, 2022, the date that the new fiscal year began in the United States, Coast Guard crews have arrested more than 900 Cubans at sea. This number confirms the rafters’ upward trend over the past few months, a stream that saw a record 6,182 intercepts in the previous period, the highest number in several years.

Between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022, a period considered for a fiscal year, the CBP arrested a total of 224,607 undocumented Cubans at the northern and southern borders, a 471% increase over 2021.
