Valentine SmithShe, daughter of Tadeu Schmidt, presenter of “Big Brother Brasil”, celebrated a year of relationship with the psychology student Christiano Donnelly Vaz in your social networks:

“1 year. 365 days. 525600 minutes with you! Thank you for being the best companion in the world and for every joy you bring me every day. Happy 7th to us!” celebrated the young woman, who is an actress and has already been honored by her father in the theater. In the comments, the friend replied: “It will be the first of many years together!! I love you!” he declared.

What is “queer”?

Valentina, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, revealed in 2021 that she identifies as “queer” to relate to other people and in her affective life. But what does the term mean and how does it fit into the community?

In an Instagram post made on LGBTQIA+ Pride Day, the young woman explained the meaning of the term through her own experience of sexuality. “For years I had a very difficult time accepting and loving myself, and it kind of blocked my love for other people,” he says in an excerpt.

“I’m ‘queer,’ which means my sexual orientation and emotional attraction don’t align with heteronormativity in my case,” he added. “I love myself and I love everyone [linguagem neutra] Your. This is me. It’s easy,” adds Valentina, who uses the pronoun she/she to identify herself as a woman.

The detail is that the term “queer”, translated as “strange” in Portuguese, was chosen because it represents a type of relationship different from what the heterosexual structure of society imposes and is more likely to be used outside of Brazil .

“These are the ones who don’t identify with the ‘G’ of gay because they understand that being gay now carries a number of different meanings. Some people associate it with a gay standard, white male, cisgender, middle class. And they want to distance themselves from that stereotype,” André Fischer, director of the Cultural Center of Diversity of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of São Paulo, told UOL.

Father’s Response to Sexuality

During the program “Papo de Segunda” on the GNT channel, Tadeu revealed his reaction when he found out about his daughter’s sexuality: “Absolutely nothing has changed for me. I can’t even say I welcomed her because it was a day like any other. Love us the same, my daughter stays the same,” she summarized.

According to the journalist, the only concern was what Conservatives would think of their positions after Valentina’s exposure.

“If I have one regret, it’s that when Valentina makes that statement, the Conservative will say, ‘Tadeu’s daughter is a bit like that, so he keeps defending these things’. I’ve defended this for a long time. And my daughter hasn’t changed at all, may she be happy as she wants to be,” he continued.

Tadeu emphasized that he is always open to dialogue when raising his daughters. Valentina never had to tell her parents that she is not straight. She posted about her guidance on social media when she felt comfortable and not receiving any “ear pull” from the family for it.
