According to reports, on Monday, May 8, Russia stationed its MiG-31K fighter jets in Ukraine. Kiev has therefore decided to raise the air alert across the country to the highest possible level.
This Monday, May 8th, Ukraine triggered the highest level of air alert on its entire territory. The reason ? According to the Ukrainian government, Russia has deployed its MiG-31K fighter jets. The latter can carry nuclear-capable Kinjal hypersonic missiles.
“A threat to the state”
“Due to the departure of the MiG-31K, there is an air alert throughout Ukraine. It must be remembered that we do not have enough Patriot systems capable of protecting the Ukrainian skies from this type of weapon,” he explains Air Force Command spokesman Yuri Ignat to our colleagues at Telecinco quoting Europa Press news agency.
The Kinjal “is an aeroballistic missile that can fly very quickly and with great precision,” so “there is a threat to the entire state. That’s why the alarm was raised,” adds Yuri Ignat.
Launched a rocket
On May 4, the Ukrainians shot down a Kinjal missile using American-supplied anti-aircraft missiles, reports L’Indépendant. This is a first since the beginning of the war.
At the same time, on Monday (May 8), on the eve of commemorations of the Soviet Union’s victory over the Nazis in World War II, Russia launched its largest wave of drones in months against Ukraine. Moscow has shot down 60 Iranian-made drones at Ukrainian targets, including 36 in Kiev, all shot down, the capital’s mayor said.
