Why I'm stopping taking the “miracle drug” Ozempic for weight loss, by botched plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow

Patched and Real Housewives of Orange County star Terry Dubrow has openly revealed that he used Ozempic but is no longer taking the weight loss drug.

The 65-year-old plastic surgeon revealed the reason he stopped taking the weight loss drug while promoting the eighth season of Botched with Paul Nassif.

Although he was a “big fan” of the blockbuster drug for people with type 2 diabetes, he told Page Six on Friday that he experienced “some side effects.”

Ultimately, the reality TV star – who looked unrecognizable after debuting a new hairstyle – said he quit because he wanted to get his appetite back and enjoy food again.

RHOC star Heather Dubrow's husband added that he felt like it wasn't worth it for him since he just wanted to lose a little weight.

“I tried. “I thought it was great,” he said. “I didn’t have that much weight to lose.”

“But I wanted to try it because so many of my patients were taking it, and I wanted to see what it was like if you weren't diabetic and only had 10 to 15 pounds to lose,” he continued.

However, he noted that his accelerated weight loss was accompanied by “mild nausea” and disinterest in food.

On his decision to quit, he recalled: “I thought, 'You know what, I want to get my appetite back somehow.' The holidays are just around the corner. I want to have a good time.”

He explained that he wanted to “go on a food vacation,” adding, “I want to be able to eat again.”

He also emphasized that people taking Ozempic must not consume alcohol.

“You can’t drink to it,” he explained. “You have to be really careful with alcohol because people are hospitalized with pancreatitis.”

When he decided to quit smoking, he remembered that he wanted to enjoy the holidays, so he stopped taking the appetite suppressant medication

Despite all this, Dubrow insists that Ozempic is “amazing.”

“I think it’s a miracle,” he said. “The greatest breakthrough in the history of medicine.”

Nassif, Dubrow's co-star on Botched, added that he believes Ozempic could potentially lead to “living longer.”

However, he is sure that there are more and more plastic surgery patients who are afraid of sagging skin due to rapid weight loss.

“Your skin doesn't adapt, so it sags,” he said, adding that people who take the drug tend to have what he calls “ozempic body and face.”

“Then you lose muscle, you don't get enough protein, and then you have a lot of sagging skin,” he said.

To combat this, Dubrow drew on his own experience in his practice and recommended that people taking Ozempic exercise and increase their protein intake.
