The Moment 3 update is available for everyone. Eyes are now on the sequel dubbed Windows 11 23H2.
Microsoft plans to release this feature update in the second half of this year. Don’t expect a well-known major. It will bring some improvements and novelties, but nothing revolutionary. For what ? Explanations.
Windows 11 and “In the Moment” updates
With the introduction of Windows 11 came changes in terms of development and updates. At the time, the company said it only offered one feature update per year.
Since then we’ve seen other small adjustments, most notably with the introduction of the “Moment” updates. They have allowed the giant to offer new products even outside of this big annual gathering. Microsoft has already released three of these updates with Moment 1, 2 and recently time 3 . All of these improvements and new features are being offered more quickly, which tends to reduce the importance of feature updates.
Suddenly, Windows 11 23H2 comes in the form of an “activation pack”. This solution is well-known because it has already been used several times on Windows 10. Note that the future of this version of Windows is bleak. The operating system will no longer receive feature updates until it dies. Maintenance is scheduled for October 2025.
Microsoft employee Jason Leznek has confirmed that Windows 11 23H2 will be released in the fourth quarter of this year. Administrators can then deploy the new update through various distribution channels. We can name Windows Server Update Services, Windows Update for Business or Windows Autopatch.
On our side (consumers), the update is provided via the Windows Update service. It is possible that it will be offered as an option in a first phase. In this case, the download and installation will not take place automatically. You need to manually intervene in Windows Update.
One of the unanswered questions concerns the future of Windows 11. Given the rumors about Windows 12 for 2024, will Windows 11 evolve or will it meet the same fate as Windows 10?
